Saturday Addition: 01.14 Christmas gift inspiring a plan, what exhibitions are you doing this year?

To kick of this years Saturday addition I have been thinking about inspiration and motivation, and that lead me to start planning what I want to see this year. So firstly a request, please can you post a comment with what exhibitions you are in over the next year, if you don’t tell me, I won’t know,

Here are a few exhibitions I will be visiting:

Artists maquettes at Pallant house Gallery (on until the end of January).

Following the success of the autumn exhibition partnership between Cass Sculpture Foundation and Pallant House Gallery, a number of maquettes by artists such as Anthony Caro, Lynn Chadwick, Marc Quinn and Bill Woodrow will remain on display until the end of Janury 2014. This unique selection of maquettes can be found in Room 17 of the Gallery; offering a rare glimpse into the Foundation’s private archive of over 400 maquettes. These works illustrate the rich and diverse history of the Foundation’s commissioning history, spanning across a period of more than 20 years.

Pop Art Design (22 October 2013 – 9 February 2014), Barbican, Art Gallery

Over fifty years after it exploded onto the art scene, Pop Art Design is the first comprehensive exhibition to explore the exciting exchange of ideas between artists and designers in the Pop age.

Isabelle Blow: Fashion Galore! At Somerset House (20 November 2013 – 2 March 2014)

The exhibition showcases over a hundred pieces from her incredibly rich collection, one of the most important private collections of late 20th Century/early 21st Century British fashion design, now owned by Daphne Guinness. This includes garments from the many designer talents she discovered and launched, such as Alexander McQueen, Philip Treacy, Hussein Chalayan and Julien Macdonald amongst others.

Happy New Years: what is your plan?

Having read others blogs exploring what their aims for the new year are, I have been inspired to define what I am trying to do. I am aiming for clarity through a reflective practise, and as I try to teach my students to have a reflective practise, and I am also trying to practice what I preach. I currently have 3 blogs and am hoping to develop an online shop in 2014.

The Artist in 6a is my general blog that contains:
1) spontaneous posts as and when something inspires me,
2) “Wednesday Addition : Little Piece of Art” to help keep me making,
3) “Saturday Addition” my space for critical thinking by discussions the work of others.
4) a small portfolio of my work

L.U.N.C.H. is my new blog for 2014 to help me develop my photographic expertise and interest. It consists of one photograph a day taken at Lunch. The reason for lunch is that I tried taking pictures at a certain time, e.g. 9am, but then I slept in, or was at work, or some other reason for it not happening. But I am always somewhere for lunch. This project is a document of images of where and what I do over a year, I hope it evolves into something interesting, but it is just me at lunch time, so could just show my poor diet!

Lastly Little Stories by Sophie is my attempt at developing writing, story telling and illustration.

Thank you to all the inspiring blogs I have read this year, thank you for liking my posts, and I hope you have a fantastic 2014!

Harry Potter, magic and amazing art

Today I went to Warner Brothers, The Harry Potter experience.

It surprised me, I know little about the world of film, and was happily amazed by the skill and wonder of the art show that is the Harry Potter Experience! There are drawings, making, science, imagination, and a sprinkle of hope and dream.

I think that is the wonder of the story, as well as the industry. It reminded me of the power of imagination and a lot of work!

Here are a few images from it, and next time you watch a film, look at the work behind it, there are a large amount of “Art” that happens to make it live.
