New week new start

This week @theartsschoolinfo live on Facebook and its self portraiture!

I haven’t done a self portrait since A level … which was late 90’s!

Looking forward to the challenge, and would love to virtually see you there!

10am on The Arts School Facebook page each day of the week.

I ask £5 a week if you are in a situation to pay, but know that some people (like me!) cannot work like they used to. One day this will be over and the more we do to keep the economy going the quicker we will get out and get on. It is not someone else’s job to fix this, it is ours.

Stay home and do art!

I am terrified.

I am terrified that you are bored

I am terrified that you do not believe the hype.

I am terrified it is your right to see your friend, grandchild, to shop, to work.

Don’t cause another peak, don’t be stupid, selfish, don’t be ignorant! Stay home, a few months of this is better than killing others, or maybe yourself.

If you are bored, anxious, worried, etc why not pick up a pencil and do some drawing?

This is the link to my Facebook page where there are now 6 weeks worth of 15 minute and 30 minute lessons

I do not want to only offer pay for classes as I know the difficult times people have suddenly found themselves in, but I, like everyone else, needs to earn a living to support my family.

Payment can be made Via PayPal or bank transfer.

Thank you for support small business!

Drawing for Wellbeing

I have made a 10 minute drawing for well-being video.

If you like it, please donate to The Royal Papworth Charity, they saved my husband life a few times over the years and right now they are facing unprecedented challenges which I know they will be dealing with with excellence and compassion.

Next weeks theme: natural forms, single objects.

The week running from Monday 6th April we will be exploring natural forms, e.g. shell, feather, fruit, seed head, anything natural.
.
We will be drawing one at a time rather than a group still life. I will be doing lots of short studies rather than one sustained drawing.
.
Join me at 10.30am each morning next week for 15 minutes.
.
See you Monday Live @theartsschoolinfo on Facebook

.
If you are in a situation to pay I recommend £5

Monthly Art Challenge – April

Each month I set a different theme and tasks to help inspire you to draw, paint and create. If you want help just let me know.

WHAT: April Inspiration – Collage and composition

This is your opportunity to use old magazines and photos to create fabulous pictures exploring composition.

TASK 1) create a series of compositions exploring how you can tell a story through composition of an image.

Don’t know where to start here are some ideas:
Using newspaper to create a landscape and circling or highlight specific worlds to create a narrative

For some inspiration have a look at Henri Matisse, Richard Hamilton, and local artist Cara Nicholls.

TASK 2) Explore virtual galleries!
There is so much work online so let’s use this time to do some deeper research into artists that inspire you!

Enjoy and Don’t forget to to share!

Facebook Lives (with and without children)

Facebook Live Wednesday Mornings.

What: 15 minute drawing over Facebook Live at 10.30am Monday – Friday: I will have the children with me so you never know what will happen!

Each week I will set a new subject. You can either draw from the photographs I post of my still life, or draw your own.

Monday will be warm up excercises, Tuesday – Friday sustained drawing. The videos will remain on Facebook for you to watch in your own time. If you are not on Facebook please let me know and can send them to you in a format you can access.

Cost
In this crazy new reality we find ourselves in, I, like many, cannot do the job we know so are having to rethink our lives, businesses and priorities.

If you wish and are able to pay I suggest £5 a week. I do not want to only offer a charge as I know the difficult times people have suddenly found themselves in, but I, like everyone else, needs to earn a living.

I believe that drawing can help wellbeing, and can calm the mind, and would like to be one of the many making our world better through this turbulent time.

If you are in a situation to pay, please PM me.

Facebook Live Thursday Evening.

Thursday April 2nd; 19.30-20.00
Theme: Tea Time

Join me this Thursday evening for half an hour of drawing from still life.

This is the first of hopefully a weekly drawing session over a glass of wine (or tea!) without children.

Set up a still life around the weekly theme, and I will demonstrate and draw with you for half an hour of lovely own time.

All welcome.

If you are in a situation to pay then I recommend £5 per week for the live sessions, but if the current world has thrown you into a place where you can’t, then please join in for free!

This month at The Arts School

Hello.

Welcome to your April newsletter.

I hope you are well in this strange old world. Isolation will be very different for all of us, and I hope you are all finding positives, and staying well. I have now been in lock down for two weeks, very grateful that the weather was been good and that we live in such a great community where people come together.

It is very important to focus on positives now and find ways to keep yourself happy. This is an opportunity to finish all those little art projects, try those new techniques, attempt that painting that you have wanted to do, to create lots of work, and for me to make lots of digital tutorials!

I have started a daily drawing session on Facebook Live, and if you miss them you can watch them back if you look in videos on @theartsschoolinfo Facebook Page. If you are not on Facebook please let me know if you would like access to them. More details below.

The Monthly Art Challenge for April is collage and composition. For some inspiration have a look at Henri MatisseRichard Hamilton, and local artist Cara Nicholls.

I can run private virtual classes, this could be developing a project, or a drawing or painting session. You would need some form of communication that I can see you on (phones, computers, and a video calling function like FaceTime, Skype, Zoom or Whatsapp) – email me to discuss.

I look forward to seeing you soon, albeit virtually for a little while!

Drawing Together! (Virtually)

Due to family health we are in isolation, but because of technology ales do not have to be alone!

This Friday 11-11:30am I will be doing a Facebook Live.

I will be drawing from a still life for 20 minutes and would love you to join in!

Monthly Art Challenge – March

Each month I set a different theme and tasks to help inspire you to draw, paint and create. If you want help just let me know.

WHAT: March Inspiration – Darkness and Light

TASK 1) This month we focus on looking at working with shadow and light in our drawing
Exercise 1: 5 minute draw: 1 minute only highlights, 1 minute only darkest shadows, and 3 minutes bringing the sketch together.
Excercise 2: Use a lamp to highlight a still life and do quick studies only drawing the light.

TASK 2). Visit an exhibition to inspire you (and tell us about it!)
* Think about using different types of marks, (squiggles, scratching, cross hatch etc.), pressing hard and soft and holding the tool in different ways.

March News Letter from The Arts School

Hello.

Welcome to your March newsletter.

I am thoroughly enjoying my weekly Life Drawing sessions as an artist at Paddock Art Studio. Having a set time that I sit down and draw, stops me procrastinating or finding other jobs to do other than prioritising drawing for myself. It is a great space, that has lots going on so please check it out! It doesn’t matter what ability you have, setting regular time aside to practice your creativity is the only way to maintain and develop your skills.

The Monthly Art Challenge for March is Darkness and Light. I will continue this year with the encouragement to visit exhibitions linked to the themes to help inspire your work. Due to family commitments I didn’t get to Hastings Contemporary in February so will try again in March.

Weekly Art Class: I will not be running a course this month at Ribs and Co. but will be running classes on Wednesday 5th and 11th March from my home in Punnetts Town, message for details. One space left this week.

Private Classes:
I offer private classes from my home on Thursdays.
2 hour session costs £35, £5 per additional person and I can take up to 4 people. Sessions run 10.00-12.00 and 13.00-15.00.

I look forward to seeing you soon
