After last weeks focus on the grey, this week is focusing on the good bits of this time of year. The colour, the form, the fruit! So here are a few photographs of my own. And here are a few little colourful bits of art by others, as usually I take no credit for thisContinue reading “Saturday addition 7: Welcoming Autumn”

Saturday Addition 6 – grey
And so it begins… The months of grey misery which is British winter, of people with SAD, of lack of light and colour. So today I look at how beautiful ‘grey’ can be. Firstly here are a couple of photographs I took crossing the Thames. There is something so powerful and sad, strong and energetic,Continue reading “Saturday Addition 6 – grey”
Technology adding new dimensions
I am in a period of experimentation, exploring materials and forms to move my work into a new direction. I started thinking about a drawing class I took with Nelson Ferreira at and V & A, and he emphasised holding the drawing up and looking at the tones, and how we have a tendency toContinue reading “Technology adding new dimensions”
Saturday addiction 4 – glass
Today’s addiction is a few picture from the glass room at the V and A. To start with this area is worth a visit as it is usually quiet and peaceful and full of display cabinets brimming with glass from every era and place you can think of! Why I like glass? 50×100 Abstract series – “Primary 1-4”
“Primary 1-4” are the latest paintings in my abstract series. The abstract series uses “rules”, always with 3 parts. I start with expressive mark making, trying to be free and unedited in working through an idea, or emotion. The second layer is about control emotions, forcing order, and form. The paintings are varnished.

I loveContinue reading “Beautiful England but where have all the butterflies gone?”

Explorations with photography – abstraction through colour removal and composition. Photographs taken of woodland, and plants. The images are put through multiple colour correction processes, changed to black and white, cropped, rotated, and recessed again. During the process I hold ideas of composition loosely,I try to be experimental, to allow something to evolve naturally, to learnContinue reading “Explorations with photography – abstraction through colour removal and composition”
Studio day.
I made it to the studio and got some more paintings finished! The next stage is to get organised for an exhibition. It feels good to get work completed, and daunting to now have to do the next step and get the work out of the safety of studio space and into the world. ©Continue reading “Studio day.”

The Giant Blue Farmhouse Cockerel – what do you think?
“The new artwork for the Fourth Plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square, a bright blue cockerel symbolising regeneration and strength, has been unveiled. Titled Hahn/Cock, the 4.72m high piece is by German artist Katharina Fritsch and will be on display for 18 months.” I have made it to see the fourth plinth! It’s big, it’s blue,Continue reading “The Giant Blue Farmhouse Cockerel – what do you think?”
